My goal as an instructor is to inspire my students to reach their full musical potential by creating a productive learning environment with constructive and positive feedback. I motivate my students to challenge themselves by encouraging them through positive work ethic to achieve their artistic goals. I’ve been teaching cello for over 20 years to students of all ages, from absolute beginners to advanced players, developing customized curriculums to account for student's learning ability, musical interests, and age.
I teach both the traditional and Suzuki methods, and while I find the Suzuki method to be very productive, I believe every student benefits the most from an individualized program to foster growth and to become an independent learner. I believe that everyone can learn how to play cello with consistent practice. My teaching philosophy is based on a belief that all my students should be able to play and perform whatever piece they desire at some point in their lives. I also believe that students shouldn’t be limited to just building repertoire, and I incorporate music history, theory and performance into my instruction.
In addition to offering private lessons both at my home and students’ homes, I teach at Merit School of Music. In the past I have taught at Sherry-Brener Musical Instruments Store, Lane Technical College Prep High School, and The Language & Music School in Oak Park.
